The U.S. Supreme Court has denied to hear the case of USA v. Lei Shi, posted earlier here and here.
This case involved the murder of the Captain and First Mate of a Taiwanese owned, Seychelles flagged fishing vessel and the prosecution of a Chinese citizen under a post-Achille Lauro, treaty-based statute criminalizing violence against maritime navigation, 18 U.S.C. 2280.
After the murders, Shi took control of the vessel for several days before the crew overpowered him and came to Hawaii for assistance.
Disclosure: I was a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney and assisted with the prosecution of this matter while a judge advocate with the U.S. Coast Guard.
